St James Cheese at Holker Farm
St James Cheese at Holker Farm is a small family-run ewe’s and goat's cheese dairy based in the southmost part of Cumbria’s picturesque Lake District. The dairy is the hard work of cheese maker Martin Gott and his partner Nicola. Instead of producing a commercial product in vast quantities, they focus on producing a relatively small amount of cheese of the highest quality.
Martin and Nicola have a flock of sheep and a herd of goats that they milk daily, so they can monitor the whole process of cheese making. They believe that the key to making outstanding cheese is the quality of milk, which is why they put so much effort into their farming methods. Their aim is to provide interesting and unusual flavours and offer people something they are unlikely to have tasted before.
