Cumberland Rum Butter, Grasmere Gingerbread
This delicious award-winning Cumberland Rum Butter is handmade by the lovely people who also make Grasmere Gingerbread®. It is delicious spread on hot-buttered toast, muffins, crumpets, scones and pancakes, served with bananas and cream, and melted over ice cream or even mince pies at Christmas. Romantic legends about the exact origins of this scrumptious delicacy abound but after rum and spices were landed at West Cumbrian ports in the 18th century, Cumberland Rum Butter began appearing in local larders. Soon, it was integral to every christening feast and a special bowl of this mouth-watering preserve was passed around for every visitor to taste. This version, arguably the best in the region, is made from butter, sugar and Lamb’s Navy Rum.
